A cookie is a small file a site may ask your browser to keep, sent back to the server on every request. Local storage (localStorage) is similar but never travels over HTTP: it stays on your device only.
I follow the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) standard, the GDPR, and Ecuador’s LOPDP. Since this site uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, there is no consent banner: there is nothing non-essential to accept or reject.
2. Summary: what this site uses
No first-party cookies.document.cookie is empty: no session, preference, analytics (_ga) or marketing (_fbp) cookies, no pixels, no fingerprinting. I load no analytics or advertising scripts.
I only store your light/dark theme in localStoragewhen you change it with the theme toggle. It is a technical preference exempt from consent: it responds to your explicit action and only remembers your choice in this browser.
Strictly necessary: Vercel delivery and security. No banner, because the site cannot run without them.
Theme preference (functional):localStorage “theme” with value light | dark. Created only if you change the theme. If you never touch it, your system theme is used and nothing is stored.
Analytics & marketing:not present on this site. If I ever add them, I will update this policy and only then show a consent notice.
3. Technical inventory
Table of what the site may store when you visit devjohandry.me:
theme (localStorage, first-party, technical preference): values light | dark, ~5–10 bytes, scoped to this origin only, persistent until you clear it. Purpose: remembering the theme you picked. Basis: your explicit request when pressing the toggle (consent-exempt). How to delete: browser settings → “Clear site data” or DevTools → Application → Local Storage.
Vercel (infrastructure, necessary): may use technical security / load-balancing mechanisms and process IP, User-Agent, Referer, path, timestamp, and edge region to deliver and protect the site. I do not configure them. Vercel’s Privacy Policy and security docs apply.
Third parties (only if you click out): GitHub, LinkedIn (Microsoft), Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp (Meta). On click, your browser sends them IP, User-Agent, and Referer, and they may set their own cookies under their policies. This site does not load them by default.
How to verify: DevTools (F12) → Application → Cookies / Local Storage. You will see document.cookie is empty and theme only appears after you change the theme.
4. How to manage cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies and storage from your browser with no on-site panel needed. Note that blocking necessary ones may break the site.
Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
5. Changes and contact
I will publish any change here (new categories, vendors, or lifetimes). If I add analytics or marketing, I will ask for your consent before enabling them. For cookie or data-protection questions, write to johalop858@gmail.com with subject “Cookies / Data protection”. See also the Privacy Policy and the origin https://devjohandry.me.
October 2026 update: the consent banner was removed because no non-essential cookies are used. The canonical domain of this site is https://devjohandry.me.
